Domestic Partnerships

Either same sex couples or heterosexual couples over 62 can register with the State of California as registered domestic partners. The law then imposes all of the rights and responsibilities of married couples. The property acquired during the domestic partnership is considered the same as community property. Any children born or adopted into the domestic partnership are subject to child custody and visitation orders. Either of the partners can be ordered to pay child or spousal support.

The termination of a domestic partnership is identical to the dissolution of marriage process. The form is slightly different, but the issues and the laws of dissolving marriages is identical. The firm represents couples who are in a domestic partnership who want the partnership dissolved.
